My Dam Pen

I have always tried to use illustrations to apply application of scripture ..... one Sunday speaking from Matthew 7:1, I said "judge not that you be not judged" .... I pulled my pen out of my shirt pocket and said "Let me tell you about my Dam pen!" ... whoa!! .... I heard one lady GASP loudly! (I have a reputation of "pushing the envelope"). And then I said "while Dolores and I were traveling - we came to this newly build Dam out west and I bought a pen". It had something like this on it "Maple Valley Dam" . I immediately said "you thought I swore didn't you?" But I was telling you about the pen I bought. My Dam pen! Seems we all have a tendency to judge too quickly at times. Or to deem an entire group of people wrong because of a few "bad apples"! Most of us have heard the old Native American term "do not judge a person until you have walked in their moccasins". We never know what some people are facing - or the suffering or the deep disappointment they have been through that causes them to conduct themselves in a way that in our eyes is unacceptable. I like the verse in the Bible that says "Love covers a multitude of sins". Sounds like a paradox doesn't it? True love has a multitude of qualities - understanding - patience - forgiveness - and is non judgmental. May the Lord help us not to judge too quickly.
