Answered Prayer!
"GOD ALWAYS ANSWER PRAYER - THEN HOW?
Devotional Pastor Gary
Title: "Put your hands at your side" Psalm 46 ... is noted especially for verse 1 and verse 10 ! Verse 1 "The Lord is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble". Verse 10 "Be still and know that I am God". What is most interesting about the Psalms is there are about 150 of them. Most of them were written by David. But he didn't sit down one day and say, "I am going to write 150 Psalms!" Each Psalm was written from real life experiences (the good, the bad, the ugly), that expressed the heart of the Psalmist. They contained the works and acts as well as the character of God and pointed the reader to a God Who deserves praise! The book of Psalms was called "The Bible" by the Israelites. Psalm 46 is a summary of 2 chapters in one of the historical books of the Old Testament, 2 Chronicles 19 & 20. It is the story of Jehosaphat who was setup to be attacked by a number of heathen nations, a multitude of pagans. Jehosaphat could have chosen to gather allies from other pagan nations to fight the multitude, due to the fact he was so outnumbered. But he chose to trust God alone in the face of overwhelming odds against him. He said to his people "O Lord God of our fathers, are You not God in heaven, and do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations, and in Your hand is there not power and might, so that no one is able to withstand You?" Jehosaphat believed what he had said to Judah and to Jerusalem! So we read in Psalm 46 "God is our refuge and strength" and "Be still and know that I am God". The original Hebrew rendition of "Be Still" and know that I am God .. literally means .. "PUT YOUR HANDS TO YOUR SIDE" [ hence, trusting entirely in the all-sufficient God who is in control]. The story doesn't end there - When Jehosaphat got to the battlefield - God had already been there ... He caused confusion among the Moabites and the Ammonites (and more) and the great multitude had actually killed each other. A great illustration .. that "GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF THINGS - IF WE LET HIM" .. Let us PUT OUR HANDS TO OUR SIDE and trust in Him in these uncertain times!
