Love and Sin!

Pastor Gary Title: "Love and Sin" I once heard about a little boy who went to a department store to get a Christmas gift for his mother. He found his way to "Women's Dresses" ..... the Clerk asked him .. "what are you looking for?" He answered "a dress for my mother". Clerk "ok - great! What size is she - small - medium - large?" .... the little boy thought for a while and said .. "I am not sure .... but she is just about PERFECT!" Scripture teaches us .. " love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins." This does not mean we endorse sin - but rather - we look at each other with LOVE. This verse merits a number of practical and theological points. One would be - which I will not elaborate on - - Christ because of His love - does not cast any of us aside because we fail. Secondly, we are all - sinners - even though God through His love has forgiven us. We are not perfect. And there are times we are nothing to brag about - we sometimes fail. Christ pointed out that the very religious Pharisee had more contempt than love as he prayed "I thank God that I am not like this tax collector". Does it really matter that someone honestly disagrees with you? Does it really matter that someone has said something in a tone that you yourself have used? Does it really matter whether a Church uses an organ and hymnal or a band? Is it really necessary to look down on a person with tattoos or a ring in their nose? We may find things about other believers or any individual that we just would not do - but is it right to feel we are better than they? We are sinners saved by Grace - where else will people find the love of Christ if it is not seen in us? Love covers a multitude of sins - as we love people deeply and don't allow our differences to separate or come between us. The Church of Christ is a great movement - a beacon in a dark world - may we be part of it by even "biting our tongue" once in a while to demonstrate the love of Christ and may love others like the little boy loved mother who wasn't the perfect size - but in his eyes and through his love saw her as perfect.
